2022 Honda CB 500 X (5 Major Upgrades)

Honda recently launched the new 2022 CB 500 X and there are some interesting upgrades. Here are the 5 biggest upgrades over the outgoing model:

#1: Fuel-Injection Reprogrammed

While the 471 cc parallel-twin, DOHC engine remains unchanged, Honda did tweak the fuel-injection to develop more low-end grunt. This is supposed to make the CB 500 X perform better off-road and easier to ride for beginner riders.

The maximum power output is unchanged at 47 hp (35 kW) at 8 600 rpm. This is to retain its class A2 status in Europe. the 6-speed transmission is fitted with a slipper clutch.

#2: New Showa Upside Down Fork

The biggest difference over the outgoing CB 500 X is the new front suspension. Golden 41 mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston USD forks replace the old traditional telescoping forks. This is another clue that Honda is targeting the light-to-medium-weight adventure bike market.

The 5-way adjustable rear shock has also been revised to match the new fork at the front. Suspension travel at the front (5.9 inches) and rear (5.3 inches) is not massive, but it will soak up irregularities on gravel roads with relative ease. Ground clearance of 7 inches is not too shabby, but without an aftermarket bash plate, the exhaust pipes are pretty exposed.

#3: Dual Front Disc Brakes

The 310 mm single front disc is replaced with dual 296 mm axially mounted discs with twin-pot calipers. Rear-end stopping power is supplied by a single 240 mm disc.

#4: Lighter Swing-Arm, Radiator and Front Wheel

The new, lighter swing-arm with hollow crossmember has more torsional rigidity but allows for more lateral flexibility for better handling. More weigh was moved to the front end which, along with a lighter front wheel, makes the bike easier to turn.

The radiator is also 100 grams lighter. Overall, though, the 2022 CB 500 X weighs slightly more 439 lbs (199 kg) than the 2021 model.

#5: More Powerful LED Headlights

Apart from the front mud guard, minor cosmetic changes are hard to spot, but the LED headlight is more powerful
